In a world where technology continues to advance  at a rapid speed what can technology do for us as we continue to age at home? This question and many more answered by Dr. Maryam FakhrHosseini, one of the researchers at the MIT Age Lab. This presentation explores the intersection of demographic change and emerging technologies. Focusing on current and near-term applications of artificial intelligence and drawing from expert interviews, research findings will be presented on the topic of smart home integration. This talk will also touch on the growing relevance of AI-driven solutions for aging populations and how technology can support daily life for older adults.

Dr. Maryam "Shabnam" FakhrHosseini is a Research Scientist at the MIT AgeLab, where she investigates the intersection of cognitive science, human factors, and emerging technologies to better understand the technology adoption process. She holds a Ph.D. in Applied Cognitive Science and Human Factors from Michigan Technological University.

Her research focuses on advancing smart home systems, optimizing connected home logistics, and integrating socially assistive robots into everyday environments to support aging in place. Prior to joining MIT, Dr. FakhrHosseini served as a User Researcher at Bose Corporation, where she applied empirical user experience methods to guide product development. Her work connects research and real-world application to shape inclusive, technology-driven solutions that enhance the lives of older adults through connected systems and human-centered design.

This Zoom webinar is presented as part of Beacon Hill Village’s Living Well Ending Well series in partnership with the Boston Public Library. Registration required online or by calling 617-723-9713. Registrants will receive a link the day before the event.
