The Importance of Oral Health for General Health with Athanasios Zavras, DDS,
SM, DMSc
SM, DMSc
Good oral health is not just about a bright smile and fresh breath. With poor oral health
linked to heart disease, stroke, diabetes and other chronic illnesses, it is about our
overall quality of life. Join Dr. Athanasios Zavras – clinician, researcher and educator –
for a fascinating discussion of the linkages between poor oral health and chronic illness,
and how inflammation, polypharmacy and even cancer can affect our mouth and our
quality of life.
Athanasios Zavras, DDS, SM, DMSc is Professor and Chair of Public Health and
Community Service at Tufts School of Dental Medicine. He is the Assistant Dean for
Faculty Advancement at TUSDM and former President of the American Board of Dental
Public Health. His research and speaking are focused primarily on the adverse effects
of bone anti-resorptive medications (such as osteonecrosis of the jaw) and the etiology
and management of head and neck cancer. Dr. Zavras enjoys practicing dentistry once
per week in his practice in Chestnut Hill, Massachusetts.
This Zoom webinar is presented by Beacon Hill Village’s Living Well Ending Well series
in partnership with the Boston Public Library. Registration required online or by calling
617-723-9713. Registrants will receive a link the day before the event.
