Diabetes Care and Treatment: One Size Doesn’t Fit All with Giulio Romeo, MD
Each person with diabetes is unique and so should be the goals and strategies for
managing their condition. Join Dr. Giulio Romeo – clinician, researcher and innovator -
for a wide-ranging discussion about tailoring diabetes care to individual patient needs
based on age and chronic health conditions. Dr. Romeo will also discuss the role of
lifestyle choices in the prevention and management of diabetes as well as the risks and
benefits of newer diabetes drugs for its control and treatment.
Dr. Romeo received his MD degree summa cum laude from the University of Rome “La
Sapienza” Medical School followed by training in internal medicine and endocrinology at the
same institution. After moving to Boston, he completed (another) internal medicine
residency at Lahey Clinic and a clinical fellowship in Endocrinology at the joint BIDMC-
Joslin Diabetes Center (JDC) Program. He serves as the Associate Medical Director of the
Adult Diabetes Section at Joslin Diabetes Center and leads efforts to innovate diabetes care
delivery at JDC and other institutions. His current research focuses on the management of
type 2 diabetes, specifically novel approaches to curb insulin resistance and liver disease
associated with metabolic dysfunction. He has received a variety of awards for his research
efforts, most notably the Irvine Page Fellowship from the American Heart Association and a
JDRF Career Development Award. He’s currently an Assistant Professor at Harvard
Medical School.
